I thought you might enjoy this quote from Eugene Peterson in full:
"Worship is a meeting at the centre so that our lives are centred in God and not lived eccentrically. We worship so that we live in response to and from this centre, the living God. Failure to worship confines us to a life of spasm and jerks, at the mercy of every advertisment, every seduction, every siren. Without worship we live manipulated and manipulating lives. We move in either frightened panic or deluded lethargy.
People who do not worship are swept into a vast restlessness, epidemic in the world, with no steady direction and no sustaining purpose." (God's Message for each day, p.355)
It really spoke to me personally, and cuts through all the circumstances I am experiencing at this time. Whatever you are feeling and doing this week, I hope that you remember Christ is the centre and the compass by whom we orientate our journey.
Those of us who have been God-worshippers for some time still need to be reminded that this is where we belong, immersed in God's love and directed by God's Spirit, cleansed by the blood of the Lamb.
Remember to pray for one another and connect with one another, particularly as things seem to be opening up and getting busy for summer. the Christmas season can distract us, as we are swept up in family obligations. We will enjoy those things, but let us remember the Advent season the hope of salvation that is fulfilled in Christ.
