The clock was a wedding gift for my maternal grandparents in the early 1930s and has been with my parents since my Gran's passing in 2006. I have been the custodian of the clock since my parents most recent downsize to a managed apartment. The clock was made by Kemp Brothers in Union St. Bristol, and there is still a shop of that name there.
As I wound the clock today I remembered it was Gran's birthday and gave thanks for her legacy, which to me was the gift of daily prayer and simple faith in Jesus. I see her as my spiritual mother, not that the faith skipped a generation, but due to the fact she spoke openly about matters of faith and in her later years we chatted a lot about God together.
Many of you are very aware of life's transitions at the moment, for yourselves or in your family or friend circle. I get the privilege of journeying with some in prayer, so thank you. These changes are potentially stressful, tiring or even sources of deep grief. My own daughter is going flatting next week for the first time, an occasion to reflect on how on earth a previously tiny person becomes a fully fledged adult and leaves home. Yet we have seen 'God moments' as a way forward is found, uncertain and anxious flat viewings turning into a real and suitable living situation.
Time passes, life changes, but God is faithful. Simple faith in Jesus, powered by prayer, still works. "The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever."
(Ps 121:8 NLT) Shalom
