We all know by now that new year resolutions are a fraught business, we start with good intentions, but then usually fail to deliver. On the tube in London, the signs on the platform say 'mind the gap'. We want to take that journey but we should be careful to avoid falling down the hole between the platform and the train.

This will suffice as a picture of human nature and our imperfections, sojourning as we are in these fragile bodies in a difficult world. You know, as time goes on, I'm feeling more comfortable doing what I can with the body and mind God has given me. Not so restless to be upwardly mobile. More maturity and patience? I hope and pray it is so.

The season of Epiphany is about Jesus Christ being revealed for who he really was, and who he really is now in the biblical worldview we experience by faith in God. The biblical texts of Epiphany show us clearly the divine nature and purpose of Christ. Turning the water to wine and so on. It would be great if some of my prayers had that sort of WOW factor (just saying). I'd get the healing I need so I could minimize riding bike trails and get back to proper running. Perhaps I'd overcome my limitations and be a really great human and minister?!

But maybe God is teaching me something in the space between the revealing of His glory and the sense of his absence. Yes, I think in that space God is teaching me patience and revealing His grace. I'm going to step out on the journey that 2025 offers in genuine hope, and with the Holy Spirit's help I'll try to 'mind the gap' in this broken world full of humans like me. Come Lord Jesus!
