Curiosity - Pastor's Pen for 28th June 2026

I found it quite entertaining the other day while dodging the rain showers, to find young Moo absolutely fascinated by a hedgehog. The local skink population would have been momentarily relieved, as she was taking a break from tormenting them.

I'm not a cat mind-reader, but I imagine she was considering whether or not the prickly customer was prey or playmate. She was certainly curious.

We may remember when our children were young and how curious they were, asking questions, exploring and perhaps getting in harms way. Do you remember being this way yourself?

All this reminded me about how good it is to be curious about God's creation. I was walking between office and home one recent clear night. Venus and Jupiter were the most visible objects in the sky, above a sliver of moon. They seemed serene in the north-west. I often think that no matter how hard the great military-industrial powers of the world try to screw up this planet, the solar system and God's universe generally are in pretty good shape.

In Psalm 104 we read; "O Lord my God, how great you are! You are robed with honour and majesty. You are dressed in a robe of light. You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens..." and further; "O Lord, what a variety of things you have made! In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your creatures." Let us continue to be curious, even filled with wonder, about God's creation and our place in it. Let us continue to work out our salvation in Jesus, exploring what the Holy Spirit is doing in us, in this amazing creation. Shalom
