Building - Pastor's Pen for 4th Oct 2026

This week, the week of our AGM, I've been thinking about our church. Let's ask; What are we building here? I'm talking less about bricks and mortar, but more about another kind of building; community building.

Reading a poem by Anna Johnstone this morning, she compared the story of the three little pigs with the wise and foolish builders found n Matthew chapter 7.

She writes; "We clap for the third little pig who went for bricks and mortar, who built something strong, who gave the wolf apoplexy as it tried its usual tricks...I have thought about your words Jesus, about the wisdom of building on rock and surviving, or the stupidity of settling on sand and having everything collapse in a heap."

As we mark another AGM, let us reflect on Jesus' words in Matthew 7, the key to which is what we do with those words. If we listen to his words and actually obey them, we are building on firm foundations. If we don't, we are on shifting sands. So let's prayerfully move forward in unity, seeking firm foundations, giving thanks for the words of Jesus, the guidance of the Holy Spirit and for God's faithfulness.
